damn, its been a while

The title says it all. Been a long while since i've logged in much less posted. Has a lot happened since then? i guess so. Aapi got engaged, soon she'll be married. Bah.

This post is gonna be messy. Beware.

As life goes on, things are bound to change. We meet new people, sometimes forget the old ones but hey thats life. We all bitch about life, how crappy it is, and how it could be better. Life is just not fair, it shouldn't be. Because if it is, what do we measure good times by? See if everyone is happy and get what they want, the feeling of that ultimate satisfaction when you achieve something important wont be the same. Thats my take on it. Though rest assured i still bitch about life like everyone else.

Also, as we meet new people, we personally are inclined to measure our life against theirs. Whats surprising to me is, how much better my life is when compared to theirs. Some people do have it easy, and its fine to be a bit envious about that. But most people are just royally fucking up their lives and for what, some measure of temporary comfort! A thing which can be taken from them at a moments notice and leave them devastated. And the best part about such people is that they don't even realize it when the truth is staring them in the face, naked and wearing a toilet paper roll for a hat.
I wonder what would drive people to do that. See i'm not big on the "denial" aspect of life. I've never understood it to be honest. Shit happens, you take a shower and move on. Whats the god damn point of putting your hands over your ears and eyes and saying "NO NO NO NO NO this cant happen" repeatedly?

Procrastination is fine, hell i do it myself, but some matters just need a firm hand to be dealt with. Where one door closes, another one opens. So just step into one. Whats the worst that can happen, you get hurt. Then tough, get through it and wait for another opportunity to come by and then latch on to that. Life is a bit like trial and error. Sure you may hit yourself in the nose once in a while, but that shouldn't stop you from trying.

Anyone who knows me knows that my life has been anything than a bed of roses, it hasn't been a bed of nails either. A mix of good and bad, which makes me appreciate the good times all the more. My sister once remarked " choti choti khushian hain tumhari!" Roughly translated she meant that i'm easily satisfied with the smallest moment of happiness. And thats what i love about these moments, cuz i think thats what really matters in life.
Everyone remembers big birthdays and vacations and stuff, but how many people remember the times they got drunk or stoned, made a complete fool outta themselves, but still were happy about it and had an amazing time. Or when a friend said something extraordinary and made them laugh! These my dear people are the true moments of happiness. These are the moments that stay with you when you think all is lost. They are yours, forever and for always.

This post has been anything but coherent, but i guess i just wanted to write. I'm weird that way.

Yep exams are back. Studies will soon commence with renewed vigor, the need to puff it all away will intensify as well.

This sem has been fun in ways. Met new people, made new friends, some who i've never seen and most probably will never see. Good and bad things are happening all around.

Why do bad things happen to good people and vice versa? where does one make the distinction? How does one stay strong? I wish i could answer all these questions but can't. I guess thats where faith comes in. Difficult part is to hold on to it i guess.

We do a lot of things in life, some more admirable than the others, i guess its all a part of growing up.

Debating and all

A lot has happened in the past few weeks. Mostly debating. On the 7th and 8th of March we were at the National Novice Debate Championship. We broke through to the Octo Finals and lost to KDU then. I was ranked 134th out of 216 debaters and our team UniKL MIAT 1 was ranked 13th out of 71 teams. We were quite satisfied with our performance being that it was our first Intervarsity tournament. Met a lot of cool guys including the KDU guys, MMU Melaka, and MMU cyberjaya DUDES!

A week before that, we had the Dean's Cup debate tournament in MIAT. It was an internal tournament and yours truely won the Cup and the Best Speakers Prize.

Then last weekend, that is Saturday, Sunday and Monday we were at MMU Melaka for the Inaugural Malaysia Debate Open. Awesome event, lot 3 won 3, didn't break but wasnt that bummed about it. It was after all not a novice thing, infact there were plenty of debaters who have competed in the Asians, Australs and the Borneo Debates.

Met up with somemore cool people, namely, Madani, Naz, Ips, Mak, Surfi, Fangz, Danial, Aihad, Paki, Nova, Ammar, Kat etc.

Our team was ranked 36th out of 74 teams and *here comes the best part* I was ranked 68th out of 221 Debaters!!! 68th with no training, no coach, no one to guide us at all. I believe this to be an achievement in itself. Hopefully it gets better, if we can do this without a coach, imagine what we could do with one!

With this post i think i have covered all that has happened so far. Oh yeah, before i forget, we overhauled an Aircraft Piston engine, that means we disassembled it, cleaned it, serviced, lubricated, Inspected(NDT: Dye Penetrant), and Reassembled it. Me is very very proud of myself. This is what i wanted to do and i'm doing it. Life is good now. If we could just get a debate coach and win a tournament or two, i could die a very happy man.

Just as i was writing a post on my latest project, mt external HDD stopped working on its own accord. Life is officially in the gutter now. Hope i can get it replaced but it's a remote possibility. DAMMIT!

Composite Project

I worked on a Composite project on Saturday night and the whole of Sunday(21st and 22nd of February). The object was to make samples using Kenaf and fiber glass. Now for those of you who may not know, Composites are materials made from two or more materials which are non-metallic in nature. Many aircraft parts are made using composites as it gives a better strength to weight ratio. This means more strength and less weight when compared to metals. The idea was to take an organic material like kenaf which is not used in the Aircraft industry right now, make samples using it and then test and find out if it is suitable for use in the aviation industry. I'll take you through the procedures with the pics below.

We made 9 samples in 4 hours. Pretty good considering we were doing it for the first time. It was back breaking work but the results were well worth it.

I know i may piss some people off with this but who cares.

11. Speed. I love speed. Bikes, cars anything. I’m incapable of going slow. It calms me down and makes me feel good instantly.

12. I hate bargaining. I’d rather ask for a discount and then buy the thing, but I hate to haggle. I’d rather pay 5 more bucks than haggle for it.

13. I hate cats.

14. I swear and curse a lot with my friends. I behave around elders but with my friends I’m totally candid.

15. I’m a perfectionist. When I do something I do it right. I don’t care if I have to go the extra mile for it and spend more money or time. It’s either I won’t do something at all or I’ll do it the best way possible.

16. I can’t stand wimps. People who bitch and moan about how difficult something is or how it is an inconvenience. If I can do it, so can you. Either don’t say you’ll do it, or just do it. Excuses are bullshit. Also people who are afraid of driving fast. I hate them too.

Yep. Not much. Nothing much going on. Bought a BB pellet shotgun. Shot everything in sight. Have started going to the gym, sore all over. On a diet. <- i know its funny. Just thought a change would do well. Uni is a bore. A promising event is upcoming. I hope it rocks! Listening to Khudi by Junoon right now and loving it. The lyrics, Salman Ahmed's Guitar and Ali Azmat's voice are a splendid mix. Hoping against hope that Arsenal signs Arshavin. Thats it.

The past few days have been terrible. Not just because of the boredom, i won't elaborate cuz its just gonna upset people.

So, moving on to the resolutions.

1. Quit the chimney.

2. Pray more regularly.

3. Get myself into a gym and tone everything within 6 months. I've done it in 2 in the past so 6 should be good enough. Bigger biceps, more defined back and finally some abs. Though i couldn't care less about the last one.

4. Start being more tolerant. People generally because of one thing or another tend to piss me off. And that too very quickly. I'm not anti-social, i just can't take fakers. So, yes, be more tolerant.

5. Stop thinking about my life and start living it. Yes..... i have no idea what it means either, but we'll figure it out along the way.

6. Study harder. Definitely.

7. Get a gf. <-- HAHAHAHA. we all know how that works out every time. end up falling for the impossible ones. so, yeah, whatever.

8. Control my finances better. Splurge and save at the same time. Now i have a reason to save so should be easy.

I believe names are important. They define who you are, they give you meaning and purpose.

Whenever i have told someone my name, i've always gotten the "Osama Bin Laden" remark. I'm sick of it. Yes i know we both have the same names and i know more about the name than you, so keep the joke to yourself.

But then interesting things also happen. A few days ago a quirky thing happened. When someone asked my name, i gave it. And what was strange and utterly adorable was the response!

Me: Hi my name is Osama.

P: WHY!!!! why is your name osama!!

Strange, yes. Funny, yes. Memorable.......... hell yeah. Just because of the sweetness and with the utter surprise of the statement. If not anything else, it was unique.

UniKL President's Cup 2008: Euphoria and Heartbreak!

This post is long overdue. It's basically because of the way we lost. Lets start from the beginning.

Terms:

MIAT 1: Malaysian Institute Of Aviation Technology Team 1, consisting of Muhammad Osama Mahfooz(2nd speaker and reply speaker), Arjuna Setiabudhi(3rd speaker) and Stephen Lim(1st speaker)

BMI: British Malaysia Institute

MICET: Malaysian Institute of Chemical Engineering Technology

9th December, Tuesday.

We left at about 2:30 pm after having packed the stuff we would need to stay at BMI.
First stop: 1Utama.

Reached 1U at about 3 ish. Got the bus tickets to Penang for the 27th. Will be traveling by a bus service called Aeroline. Then we went to a mamak called something like A Malik. Some of the most amazing Nasi Kandar i've had in Malaysia. It was recommended by Arjuna, a life long citizen of Gombak. Had our lunch, and then headed to BMI. Got there and found out that the other guys who were getting there by the uni bus were late. So we got our room and unpacked. Nothing much to do so we headed to a mall close by. Bought some items and i got this quirky thing called a Fish Massage done. The fish are toothless and bite off your dead cells and improve blood circulation, don't know about that but it was damn ticklish. RM 5 for 10 minutes. Good enough!

After that we got some dinner and headed back to BMI. Slept after that.

10th December, Wednesday, 1st day of the Debates.

Had some breakfast, dressed up in our uniforms and headed to the briefing room. Found out that that Round 0 was a practice round such that there will be no points for winning or losing. A not so important tidbit: No clue why but we were stared at all day, maybe it was due to our uniforms or maybe something else.

Motion: The House Would Abolish Curfew.(Hostel and campus curfews)
Side: Government

Result: Thrashing Victory!

The other guys weren't bad, we were just too good. We felt confident after that victory, and as much as we told ourselves not to have any expectations, each of us wanted to win. Then we had lunch and made our way to the briefing room for the details to the last round of the day.

Venue: Room 4
Motion: The House Would Legalize Abortion.
Side: Government

Result: Clean Victory

It was the first time we went up against a team composed entirely of girls. Was fun. We were elated at the fact that we had won 2 in a row, something we never expected, had some tea and went to dinner. Slept a bit early that day too as the next day was hectic with 3 rounds of debating provided we reached the quarter finals.

11th December, Thursday, 2nd day of the Debates

Woke up, showered, and decided to do something unique. We all abandoned our uniforms and went in a pair of jeans and t-shirts. The other guys from the other campuses were all dressed in formal attire and our attire was stared upon a lot. We enjoyed the attention as it made us unpredictable. We felt invincible! Went to the briefing room again, and got the details of the next debate.

MSI 1 VS MIAT 1
Venue: Room 5
Motion: The House Believes That Violent Video Games Should Be Banned
Side: Opposition

Result: Clean Victory

This was the first time we felt unsure. The topic was leaning towards the government side and we were the opposition. We were counting on the other team to be a little stupid. We were mistaken. What contributed to our victory was our diverse thinking. Quite satisfied, we headed back to the briefing room. Got the details of the next debate and got to it.

MICET 2 VS MIAT 1
Venue: Room 3
Motion: The House Believes That University Education Should Be Free.
Side: Opposition

Result: Close Victory!

After the debate we were asked to step out of the room so that the adjudicators could decide the verdict, we were quite certain that we had lost. Imagine our surprise when we got the result. This was the best team we had encountered so far and they had put up some very strong arguments. The had narrowed the topic down very well, but had failed to make it iron clad, and taking advantage of that, we expanded those loopholes to the size of the Grand Canyon.
It was amazing to realize that we were on a 4 round winning streak. We went to lunch and then to the briefing room again to find out who we would be going up against in the quarter finals or even if we had made it to the quarter finals. The top 8 teams were announced. We were in 2nd place, short of only 9 points from the leaders. And we were going against the same idiots we had thrashed in Round 0. Confident we were, as Yoda would say.

Venue: Room 2
Motion: The House Would Ban Fast Food Advertisements.
Side: Opposition

Result: Split decision. 4-1 in favour of the Government

We had to go to the briefing room to find out our result. We expected a good clean victory. We had solid points to their flimsy ones, we had made a better case and thrashed their every point.
The result was announced. We LOST! We were dumbstruck. It was utter disbelief, followed by a mixture of anger, frustration and all things bad.
You would say, Win Like a Man and Lose Like a Man. But we stuck to the rules, they had not. They had cursed us and attacked us personally. These were grounds for deduction of points. Sadly the adjudicators were sleeping.

So that's it folks. That's what transpired. I learnt on the next day that i had won the Best Speakers Award(Cert and Trophy) from my campus. That did not help. What did Arjuna and Stephen get? Nothing. We win like a team and lose like one. Period.
All in all, I would rather lose on my own terms than win on someone else's. Also I would rather lose with the people i like than win with people i hate.

To Stephen and Arjuna, i would only say this. I consider myself very lucky to have had the chance to debate with you guys, it was an honor and it truly rocked. I wouldn't have done it any other way.

A few fun things that we did:

1) Satanic Waters: This name was dubbed to the water that was supplied to the Showers in BMI. Reason being that it was cold enough to freeze people. In the morning you would see people shivering and running to their rooms. Arjuna enjoyed it thoroughly though.

2) Machines!!!: Watch the Matrix spoof by the MTV and you will understand.

3) Had fun and laughed at everything and anything while all the others were stressed out and worried. Life is short people, live it, don't fret over small things.

This past week has been a blur of cramming sessions, rushing to the exams and intense sleep deprivation. Reason: EXAMS!!!

how i hate that word, where does it say that if a person memorizes every single bit of information and gets an A+ in his exams, that he will be successful later in life??!! I know a great many people who were quite average when it came to examinations but excelled in their practical lives, i just don't get this trend and this mindset.

3 exams done, tomorrow is the last one before the Eid break. All went well, and as i hate discussing exams after i've given them, i won't talk about it. And DON'T YOU DARE ASK ME!!! :D

I'm happy though with the studies, this while semester has been like a blur, going by too fast. I was quite passionate about this field when i joined this university, but somewhere in this semester, for nearly the whole semester i had been feeling like i lost the plot. It just isn't as exciting anymore but i guess that has something to do with the crappiest subjects I've studied in my entire life. I'm happy to say that I've regained that drive and baby, I'M BACK!

Nothing now on the personal life. There is no personal life. Constant feeling of loneliness, which will be further intensified by the Eid which is fast approaching. Ever since i've come here, i've been missing out on a lot of good times. So far i've missed 3 Eids, 6 birthdays and 2 Convocation parties and its just been a year and a half. Two and a half long years to go at least. Feeling a bit lousy on that front. This Eid will be the same as the last lousy one. Alone in this damn house though it maybe a bit fun too. In one word: BBQ! i've loved BBQs ever since i was a kid and me and my housemate have planned a little BBQ for Monday evening, which is Eid of course. I foresee Grilled Chicken, Roasted Chestnuts, Lots of Tea and Coke, Fresh bread etc. Who knows, i may even go all out and whip up something like putting a chunk of cheese inside a chicken breast and grill that. I hope its a little fun. Nothing else to do really.

Another little tidbit you might not know, on the 9th of this month, me, Arjuna and Stephen will be heading of to UniKL BMI. Its one of the other campuses owned by UniKL, god knows what they teach there but regardless, we will be heading there to win the Inaugural UniKL Presidents Cup. Its a debate competition, where we will be up against teams from the other UniKL campuses. Let me state that we did not volunteer, we were picked against our will. Nevertheless we will try and do out best. As you can imagine, we would have been better placed had this Competition not been smack in the middle of our finals but nothing can be done. All the other campuses have finished their finals nearly three weeks ago and therefore are much better prepared than us. They can be expected to come with Matter Files etc. A matter file is something that a debater carries with him/her and this file contains references, information and statistics on many topics, topics which may be the motion of the debate. We have no such thing, we had no time to prepare the file and so be it. We have vast amounts of worthless information in our brains and we shall use it to full extent.
This competition runs from the 10th till the 12th of December. We sit for the remainder of our finals on the 15,16 and 17th of December and then we are finally done with everything.

To celebrate, we, that is me, Arjuna, Stephen, Rain and Joe will be heading off to Penang on the 27th hopefully. Still have to get the bus tickets. God i need a vacation!

First exam done

As the title says, my first exam is over. Went well, could have been better but cant do anything about it now. Surprising paper, everything that the lecturer had said didn't come, was completely different. Sucks really, i studied like a dog for it too.

On a better note, my beloved Tulsi is here. No not the damn Indian soap woman, Tulsi . How i've missed it.

so utterly lost

Its been a long time since i wrote. Life made no sense then, it doesn't now. I actually look forward to classes now, assignments are more welcome than ever, anything to keep my mind off the tornado of crap which surrounds me is a huge help.

This semester has been a heterogeneous mixture of the good, the bad and the downright confusing.

We finally have some cricket matches, but they are no fun. Trust me, it no joy when something you love is messed up right infront of you and you can't do anything but be an unwilling party to it. I shall leave it at that.

As for the dating scene..... its as confusing as ever. Met a girl, liked her, found out the feelings are mutual and then like everything else it gets confusing. Text messages are not replied, vague answers are received. No idea what she is thinking, no clue as to what should i do. Completely and utterly confused right now. I wish she would just give me some clue. If she wants to end it then i'll accept it, but all i know is i can't go on like this. Its not the way i'm built. Funniest part is, i really like her.

Got entered into a debate contest, want to win, no time for practice as its smack in the middle of exams. Mulling over whether to drop out knowing full well that the person who recommended me has high hopes. That would be a bastardly thing to do wouldn't it?

Not going back to DXB this december. Not happy about it either. Can't anything about it as well.

I maybe wrong but it seems like i have no control over anything and i'd do just about anything to get that control back. Anything at all. If that means praying, i shall do it. Maybe God is just pissed at me right now, need him back on my side. Now more than ever.

In a mood to write today, dont know why, nothing to write about really.

at a friends house, sitting around and doing nothing all day long, will have some new pictures soon enough i hope, going to Penang on the 26 or 27th of this month. Will finally get a chance to do some paragliding so that's a plus. Nothing much really going on really, will be getting the bike throughly repaired as eid break ends as all the little things are starting to give way, i suppose it had to happen sometime.

Ramzan is boring as usual, missing the guys back home, hope their ramzan is going a lot better.

Kya likhoon kuch samajh nahin aa raha, missing the friends who have gone home, watched all the movies i have and waiting on the new Gossip Girl season.

But like last ramzan, this one too shall pass, eid will be as uneventful as the last one. Then the university will start and there will be no time to feel or absorb anything. By the time exams start it will be november, phir wohi cheezein, and then peace.

On the plus side, Arsenal is at the top of EPL, will be hard to maintain it but i guess its not impossible, although we lack the depth to keep it up.

Ok this is a really old post which i wrote some months ago but am posting it anyway.

Is it just me or are you tired of it too. Don’t worry i’m not suicidal or anything and i’m not crazy and no i’m not depressed, its just i’ve ran out of topics to write about. I see all around people busy with their lives, lives that are filled with extracurricular activities and I wonder if i’m the odd one out. If i’m the only one with a slightly different take on life compared with people of my own age. Studying and then partying seems to be the general way here. Whereas I sit on my laptop and play the same old games i’ve played before. Why am I worried about tomorrow? Probably because i’ve got too much time on my hands.
The so called friends are busy with their own lives. The most essential accessory “girlfriend” is in huge demand. Why is it that as soon as a guy acquires this item that he thinks that he has drank from the holy grail, his friends don’t seem as important. They disappear and he is surrounded by this halo of supposed love. These people are very different from the “players”. Now i respect the players more than these love struck fools. The thing about players is that they have so many women to choose from that they stop giving a damn about them and just use them as a recreational product. This may sound chauvinistic, insensitive and maybe immoral but see 20 is hardly the age for one to settle down, this is the age for him to explore boundaries, make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. I hope that these teenage Romeos get their act together. The mistakes they make will haunt them at the end. The thinks that irks me the most is their inability to say NO to their lovers. They seem completely incapable of saying this monosyllable which can save them from hundreds of unnecessary hassles, but do they realise this........ no.
Maybe its just a fools ramblings but this is how i think about life and if I am the only one then the name of the blog fits perfectly. A mutant I am.
Many would also argue that I do not have this accessory and thus feel this way. To them I say that I will not, under any circumstances, be tied down. Someone who will eventually control the way I behave is someone I really don’t need right now. I’m happy single.

On a happier note I had two midterms today and can proudly say that I did fairly well on both. For the first one(Mandarin: yes i do have to study it, I’d have chosen French had it been an option as French women are hotter than Chinese) I was punctual and did as well as can be expected. Then came back and slept. Woke up to find out that the battery on my phone had died and I was 1 hour late. This was an hour and a half long exam mind you. Got there with 15 minutes left, was given an extra 30 minutes and to my surprise ladies and gentlemen it was one of the best midterms of my life. I was compelled to use not just the crammed knowledge but also my understanding of the subject. And I can proudly admit that I did quite well.
That is pretty much it. Tomorrow I have cricket training and hopefully I will be able to transform my mediocre cricketing skills to something more potent.
Thank you for your patience and please understand that some of the posts from now on will be of this nature. I’m here to experience life and it’s only right that I share my experiences with you. Let me know if I was out of order somewhere.

The weekend. Days for a person to relax, to unwind and everything else.

Your “friend” that you came to meet doesn’t call and doesn’t return your calls. Nor does he reply to any of your sms. So you spend the rest of the weekend with your roommate and his friends. Along with other things, you convince yourself that you don’t need a girl.

Now picture this…………

The weekend has nearly ended and you board the last train to the university. You are going to the track when your friend asks you to check out the girl, standing behind you. You do, agree with him and then tell him to find you someone your own age. The train is late but it finally arrives, you rush to get seats and are lucky enough. You find three seats and sit down along with your two mates. Life is pretty OK. You look up, only to find out that the same girl is sitting right opposite to you and is smiling at you. You smile back and continue to aid your friend in killing the Nazis in his PSP game, while your other friend is leaning against the wall of the compartment listening to music with his eyes closed. You keep looking at her and she keeps returning the favors and keeps smiling at you. Time passes by and there are only 4 stops left. Suddenly she strikes up a conversation with you by asking you where you are headed. You smile and say “Nilai” and ask her, “What about you?” she replies, “Seremban”(couple of stops ahead of Nilai). And then adds “ I thought you were going to Serdang”. You say no and wonder whatever gave her that idea. Then you keep the conversation going and are amazed to see that she is more into it than you are. She tells you she works at Genting on the weekends and sells concert tickets and is currently a model but is looking to become an actress. She asks you about your university and you tell her only to find out that she thought you were a Malay Sikh. You laugh and so does she, then you tell her that you are from Pakistan. She shows you those perfect pearly teeth again. Then you laugh at the fact that all the guys from NT college are staring at you and the girl and listening to your conversation.(the sorry sods). You are nearly at the end of you journey when the beautiful creature asks you your age along with all of your mates and before you can answer she predicts correctly that you are the eldest and the other two are the youngest of the group. And then waits for your answer…………………….

You say “20”.

She seems very disappointed. You know whats wrong but still ask her.

“How old are you?”

With a very small and sad smile she holds out her fist, first extracts two fingers (your heart rises) and then extracts “three” fingers (your heart sinks faster than the Titanic)

You say Bye and so does she and with a wink you are off.

It seems that the entire universe is coming together to mess with your life. And if life is supposed to be fair then there is something seriously wrong with the referee.

They say look for the silver lining, but unfortunately I am unable to find one. Any ideas???

well as anyone who lives in MIAT during the weekends knows, hey can be really boring. Day before yesterday we walked 3 hours from CIMB bank in Nilai to NT college and then had some decent Pakistani food there. No such luck yesterday so we just decided to climb the mountain in MIAT.

That’s what the last week has been for me, uneven. Ups, downs and more ups and more downs. Can’t figure out where to start. The week started off well enough, classes and assignments kept me busy. Worked my ass of on a group assignment, spent time, effort and money on it only to be let down by some idiotic and off base research by a group member which turned the assignment from a “superstar” to a “never was”. Was thoroughly pissed off and cursed nearly the entire day. Kept going to a mamak restaurant called Jenderam for dal and chawal but from now on will try not to go very often. Overkill. So back to the tale, Friday arrived and I prayed and then dad called, it felt unbelievably good to talk to mum and dad and was glad to know that they were at least enjoying themselves a little bit. Dad’s cholesterol is again high but that was expected as Karachi is the city of fatty, greasy but unimaginably good food. I miss it a lot. I’ve heard it has rained pretty heavily in the last 2 days, so don’t know the condition now.

Anyway finished nearly all of my assignments on Friday with a bit of help from Imran on the electrical fundamentals one, played Warcraft III with Rauf, while Zohair slept. He woke up at 9 when I had finished 3 assignments and then we ate a couple of shitty, greasy, suicidal burgers each as no one really wanted to walk all the way to Hassan seafood and eat the same food that we eat everyday. After that as none of us was really tired and had nothing to do, craziness ensued. I had the brilliant idea to climb the steep as hell, dark, deserted and creepy road that leads up to the water reservoir. Rauf accompanied me and zohair stayed at the bottom of the road in plenty of light as in his own words, “darkness makes me shit bricks!!”. We nearly went the entire way until I had the great idea to run back down. Zohair saw us and cracked up saying “phat gaye, phat gaye!!” until I yelled “come here you bastard, we are all going up” then he ran as if the hounds from hell were after him. After chasing him for nearly 5 minutes everyone gave up and just sat down on the road. Refreshed and laughing like idiots we then decided to explore MIAT by starlight. Went to the lake where snakes are a certainty but stayed well away from it, looked at the newly arrived but unpacked equipment then decided to head to the tennis court. Even though it was dark, we got zohair to accompany us. So went to the tennis court and fooled around and then went to the wooden benches in the football ground and started listening to crazy stuff on our cell phones. By the time we got back to the room it was 5:10 am. Then I went back to my own room and slept till 11:30am. Would have slept some more but the noise of the water cannons (clouds) woke me up. It was raining like hell and thunder was like several cannons being fired at once. Strangely enough it was quite refreshing.

So I got up, showered, shaved and then went to zohair’s place. Woke him up and then went back to my place to get ready for the evening ahead of us.

Yes guys and gals, I spent the last part of the weekend in KL. We met up with a couple of friends from a nearby college. They had received the results a couple of days before and were going to treat us. So we met up at Midvalley which is a mall, and mind you a huge, gigantic one. Saw the “Simpsons”. And I recommend this movie to all who read this. It is a must see. After that the girls took us to Bangsar Village Mall, which is a relatively new mall. We ate dessert at a fantastic but horrendously expensive place called “Delicious”. The deserts were absolutely amazing. No one really wanted to go back then so I and Zohair went hunting. We found a place through a random guy called D’Haven. And recommend this place as well. The place is really cool. Best things about it is that it remains open till 2 am, the food is cheap, the ambience rocks, the music selection is heavenly and the Shisha is simply splendid. So we stayed there from 11 pm to 1:30 am. Had some food and smoked an Apple and Mint Shisha for nearly 2 hours. Then the question arose……….. “Where do we go now?”

This was answered by heading back to Midvalley and going to the billiard place which stayed open till 2:30. Played a couple of games till it closed. And so we again had to answer the above mentioned question. The answer this time was so idiotic that it sent everybody in fits of laughter.

HIDE AND SEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the limit set to the same floor, we started playing. The seeker performed her job admirably and found everyone in about 30 minutes flat. Then we hung around in the mall for another hour and then finally went to a Mamak 24 hour restaurant outside. Then with a little bit of luck and huge amounts of courage my hommie achieved his objective, while I failed miserably in mine……………

Then at about 6:20 we went to the KTM station and caught the 7:00 am train to Nilai. Arrived there at 8:00 am, dropped the girls back to their college and came back to MIAT at 9:00 am. Then the both of us slept till 4:00pm.

Got up and finished up the last assignment. Was up till 2:30 doing it only to be informed that the deadline has been extended by a week!!!!

Cursed my luck, then cursed some more and then cursed just a little bit more and the went to sleep at 3:00am.

Woke up today at 7:30 and went to the 8:30 class only to find out that the lecturer that I loved has been replace by another one who speaks English with French slang but is from a neighboring country to Malaysia. Thorough put off by that right now. Plus guess what……………………………….the hotspot has failed again so currently typing on MS WORD.

Not a bad weekend but not a very good one at that. Had ups and down like the ECG readout of some one having a seizure. Extreme highs and Extreme lows.

No pity required though, gimme a few days and I will be my cheerful, talkative, crazy self again.
But until then not feeling like doing much of anything.

yes guys life has begun, studies are full swing and are getting steadily harder each passing week.

Its the weekend now and i am pissed off about something i will not say here........ but believe me i am.the worst thing about being a funny and upbeat guy is that whenever you are quiet people start asking whats wrong........and thats NOT fun. next weekend will be even worse, just have classes for 3 days and them Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday is off. But i have my assignments to take care of, engineering drawing is what i have been bitching about to everyone is the most challenging and to some extent fun. other than that all is well, lost a bit of weight, which is goood, food here is pathetic and so no fun in eating, tea and even cigarettes suck.

I haven't been here long enough to really form an opinion but from all reports it seems that anything and everything goes on here. I will refrain from mentioning what "everything and anything" is. The weather is something i don't get. Its cool outside and hot inside the room. Eventhough it rains like crazy, the humidity never decreases.

studies have started but haven't really kicked off in full force. A bit of good news is that Islamic Studies is taught in Malay and so is not mandatory for international students, so one less thing to worry about. Strangely enough some of the core subjects should have been allotted more time but that is sadly not the case. Also a lot of the equipment needed is not provided and so i have to purchase myself. More expenditures. The only thing cheap is the food. I am bored out of my mind. I cant believe it but i really want the classes to start so that i have something to do, freaky isn't it.

well i have to wrap this up as i have just been informed that the library will be closed in 5 minutes so....

Not quite sure about the title, but had to start somewhere. What can i say that people don't already know? Well recently i gave my ELPT and aced it, although the results are not out yet. I get bored during the day and the same is the case at night. If i stay home i feel like shooting my self just for the heck of it and if i go out then money is spent,which i don't want. I am not a miser but if i spend the dough then at least i should feel a little satisfied, and sadly i don't feel it.

Saw Die hard 4.0 yesterday at a not so crappy but cheap Indian theatre had dinner at 12 and for some odd reason decided to walk home. It took 1 hour and 10 mins but at least i felt a little relaxed. don't get me wrong, i am not tensed or worried or anything else, its just the loneliness that gets to me. Inshallah when the semester starts and i make a few friends the it will get better, if not anything else the time will pass and i wont feel bored all the time.

To those unaware of the fact, i turned 20 on the 30th of June, that is a couple of days back. First birthday ever without any of my immediate family, but i think Allah heard me and i spent a good part of the day and night with my Uncle/Bhai. He is my mom's cousin but only 14 years older than me. i know thats a lot but i refuse to call him uncle! Dinner was nice, we ate at a restaurant called Secret Recipe and the cake at the end was absolutely amazing. Then me and my room mates went to a club called "Rumms". Nice place but not my type. I liked the music at "The Beach Club" more.

But now have found out that clubbing is not really my thing. Posting a few pictures now........

WTF the title, i have no idea if it should be "Chaos and I" or "Chaos and me" so whatever........

Well i am leaving finally on the 24th of June, exactly 8 days from now at 21:05 pm.

This week has been utter and complete chaos for me. i don't want to be one of those people who say that they are deprives or that their parents don't give them enough attention and all that shit, but the thing is..... that apart from the shopping that i am doing, which is by the way, nothing over board. I confess i am not buying only the basic things that i need to take but am also buying some other stuff that i need/want. but what i crave for most is do do stuff my way before i leave... go where i want, meet whomever i want to meet, do what i want to do and not get entangled in the social crap keh you have to meet them or them or etc. I know i am not going to a jungle, i am in fact going to one of the most progressing countries of the world but why cant i do stuff before i leave. i mean ................ i don't know what i mean. Everyone thinks my current friends are huge pieces of shit just because they are from a pathetic university called Preston, but if i want to hang out with them i should be allowed to do so without criticism. i suppose i am one of the very few 20 year olds who are ordered to come home before sunset. i don't mind this rule but then at least let me out till sunset and not order me home 2-3 hours before my deadline.

And then i am asked, why am i not excited? Its not that i am not excited, i was never the type who wold jump around and make a whole bunch of noise just because of my excitement, and let me make this clear, I AM EXCITED!!!!

Note to all parents: NOT every god damn point has to be made by yelling or screaming it. You can say it in a normal tone if not in a nice one and your child will still understand you. they are not brain dead.

Now to happier things, those who know me would also know that i manage a fantasy cricket team called Galacticos. They would be happy to know that Galacticos is currently at the top of their league tables and recently sold a youth pull for a hefty 2.55 million pounds. They play their most important match this Friday and ask everyone to pray that they win it. They are also looking to buy a star who may guarantee them this win.

Ok guys this might seem like a lame excuse but the reason i was away from the blogging scene is that i simply did not feel like writing much.
But now i am back with lots of news.
This post however is dedicated to my upcoming journey. Yes guys its true. I am leaving the United Arab Emirates. And i am not going to miss this place. The only things i am going to miss are my friends and my family. I am going to Malaysia to pursue my degree in Aeronautical Engineering at MIAT(Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology) which is a part of Universiti Of Kuala Lumpur. Pics of my campus will be below. Its is a little far from civilization but that could be a good thing as more time will be dedicated to studying that messing around.
I will be leaving on maybe the 23rd or the 24th of june and will come back in may 2008. Hope for the best.

back with the latest i am. today was a mini celebration, as today my little sister turned 18. The main celebration will b on the weekend as, everyone will be present then. Poor girl has exams going on and is studying like a nerd. which is good. definately good.

last week passed by in a blur of good and heart breaking news. The good news i will leave for a more cheery time, the sad and gut wrenching news is as follows;

Pakistan again crashed out of the world cup at the hands of a team barely known for its cricketing prowess, Ireland. They deserved the victory and they got it.

But what really bummed me out was the death of one of their best coaches we have ever had, Robert Woolmer aka Bob Bhai. He came in 2003 when the team was at its absolutely worst, brought it to 2nd position in world rankings and sadly he has left when we are again at a new low.

From what is reported he was a wonderful person, an excellent writer, brilliant tactician, loyal friend and a kick-ass coach. His memory lives on, in our hearts and in my mind at least for the rest of my life. I am one of those die hard fans. Come next series i will again be seen cheering for my team with the same passion, as who would i support if not my own team. Yes it is my own team, i have a right to it as much as anyone else, so does each one of us for their respective teams and don't let anyone tell you any different(Apologies if this makes no sense).

Effigy burners will still burn effigies, but all i ask of you is this" If you couldn't respect a man in his life at least show respect in his death".Don't be heartless bastards and say he wasn't much good anyway.

I did not know him personally(duh!) and being particularly bad at poetry, i present one of W.H. Audens' as a fitting end to this post;

This eulogy(if it can even be called one) is not comparable to what Osman Samiuddin wrote, but i felt like he deserved a lot more than my sorrow and in this way he will always have a place in my consciousness(whatever little that is worth).

ok after constant nagging and with a few other things to report. i am back. lots of stuff happening.

1. I joined Preston University for a whole lot of reasons other than education. its not so bad really. A few people actually do know what they are teaching but i do admit these people are very few. Psychology is a bore and bastardly tough. other than that everything is a piece of cake. Wanted to join the basket ball team but i have no time. finally got some friends who actually call instead of me calling them all the time. mid terms start on the 25th. hope i do well.

2. sister's friend's brother is here from karachi and is settling down on permanant basis which is good. I actually have fun with the guy, mostly because he and i have a lot in common. going to clean his place on friday to make it suitable for living. expecting to have fun. also expecting to play a lot of basketball with him in the future. it will be a lot more fun when his wife an kid arrive. hope i a here when this happens cuz his kid is a darling and i enjoy kids a lot. they do the same to me but wierdly all kids come to me and play and have fun and then go away. they never stop crying when i pacify them or sleep when i hold them. freaky. though i love being the fun pit stop. get all the good times this way.

3. sat prepeations going well. hope to do good too in that. test is on may 5th.

@ D-reb: Dude you should try it. seriously. min of half hour every week. it rocks.

@ Umar ada: we aim to please. we are not nearly worthy recipents of the immense praise that you have showered upon us in your post. (i know this sentence sounds corny)

@ alta: thanks buddy for being one of the sanest voices around me and for always being there when i need to talk to someone. and eternally grateful on the constant battrick advise.

I think this post quite aptly describes everything that has been going on for the past 2 weeks and hence i will take my leave.

BUT expect a post or rather my take on the pak team for the world cup and my messages directly aimed at every members of the squad.

well it has ben some boring past weeks. if it werent for Alta and Battrick i would have been declared dead due to boredom.

To all the Pakistani cricket junkies out there! Battrick is the thing for you guys. Get your own team, train players, sell them and buy players with more potential, play friendlies..........
Seriously its the best fantasy cricket game ever!!!!

I lost an OD(One Day) match that i was counting on to win by 10 runs but got my first friendly win today, and that by around a 100 runs. As this is my first season, i am counting my second season to be a little better i.e. i am counting on to win more.

thats basically it to report. Except for working out and studying for SAT there is nothing much to do.

too long a vacation

well nothing much has been going on in the past week or weeks i shoud say.

thinking of doing SAT-I. Joined a gym not really close to my house. Its a 25 miute walk so 50 minutes are spent going to and coming back from the gym. at least it kills some time. to make boredom worse mum has gone to karachi for 8 days. now i am sitting in an empty house, drinking chocolate milk straight from the carton(cavemen didnt need glasses and neither do i).

the pain in my stiff muscles is beginning to subside although my stamina is still shit. so much for my opinion that i have a normal stamina. it would probably be another two weeks before i start taking any protein supplements so lets see. until then if any of u guys have an experience with proteins the please let me know, it would be a great help.

hey guys

so i am back... well actually have been back for 10 days but was lazy and couldnt bring myself to type. Karachi was fun. PERIOD! I dont know why people bad mouth my city, if not the cleanest and if not the most decent enviroment to live in, it can still hold its own. The trip was eventful to say the least. Food poisoning, drips, non-stop eating of meat, visiting relatives to going to the bakra mandi and getting animals combined witha bit of some shopping was fun but hectic. The vacation turned out to be quite stressful. and still people were not happy as we did not eat lunches at their respective houses.

people over there are cring about how expensive everything has become and how the government is nt doing anything but there cold hard fact is that karachi or for that matter pakistan is not alone in this situation. The bitter truth is that IF you have money you can afford anything and if you dont have the dough everything is expensive. But people its the same in the emirates, the same in europe and the same in almost all parts of the world. We must accept this reality. People over there are also status conscious. while talking to my cousin's husband about various things we stumbled upon the topic of shoes. i had just bought a splendid pair of shoes from general boot house and for qouite a reasonable amount fron my point of view, when he declared that EBH and GBH had lost their quality ans that i should have gone to a shop on tariq road called shoe spot and i would have found international brands like clarks and hush puppies among others there. Dude! if i would want to but shoes from clarks i could do it from shj also and the fact that we are one of the largest exporters of fine quality leather should count for something!

The quality of cloth was superb. I got some t-shirts from a shop in dolmin mall and the are wonderful.

I also met a couple of my friends from high school and that was pleasent.

Nando's was a shit hole compared to the one in shj, pizza hut was slightly better. BBQ tonight was simply superb.

Road side amroodhs or guavas with the lal masala were delicious, pity i had to suffer 7 hours of extreme agony and stomach pain because of them.they were also the reason for my food poisoning.

i really liked the new flyovers being built and nearly completed around the city. Traffic was lovely when compared to that in dubai.

met a lot of cool people including my cousin alta.

thats all i can remember now but will write more later. lemme give those pics another shot DONE!!!

well i've done it! i have achieved my first accident. While driving on a jammed road leading to ghorud bridge i looked away momentarily and BAM!

i wasn't anything major but still the police were called and strangely enought i did not get a mukhalfah (fine or traffic offence or ticket), thank god. I should have been more focused and now i know why my dad hardly talks when he is driving. a moments lapse of concentration can result in some serious waste of time. and remember that it has been only a month since i have got my license and a serious offence and result in its cancellation. I hope it dosent happen.

so i am bummed and semi depressed and now i have to get on with it. "It" as in life. "Life" as in the shitty existance and the process of convertion oxygen to carbon dioxide.

I am will be recieving my conditional letter of acceptance to MIAT / University Of Kuala Lampur for BSc. in Aeronautical Engineering shortly. Ladies and gentlemen raise your glasses "here's to another step in a succesful career" (CLINK!!! cRUNCH; DAMN! I BROKE MY GLASS). In a few days My dear Friendly Lion will be free of her work and be back in her uni for her final semester.

Alhamdulillah nearly all my friends have started their studies in various universities as well some i said goodbye to and some lousy, lim**ick fu**ers left with out saying anything.

hi guys

after many days( weeks probably ) of delaying this post,,,, i am back!!!!!!!

So much has changed and is as follows

1. I got the damn license!~!!!!!!!!!!. Thake that u miserable &*%$#^&**$!&'s in the traffic department. I had to wait for a complete period of four hours before i got the blanking thing.

2. recieved an email from the uni in malaysia which basically said that my grades were fine so i will by applying properly in december inshallah.

3. I have officially sunk in the deep waters of boredom and my only condition of swimming out is that i find some sodding thing to do..............

thats pretty much it. watching or reading(more accurately) the live commentry on the 3rd one-day bw pak and eng in which pak is whooping eng's ass. will sleep soon and the when i wake up another day of boredom will decend upon me.

Yesterday one of my best friends left for Pakistan permanently to continue his studies and tomorrow another one will leave. Where does time go? The past 4 years have been like a videotape on fast forward mode. Woosh grade 9th is done and then woosh grade tenth. Before anybody knew what was happening we had completed our matriculation and entered college and hence started lectures and speeches from our teachers about planning for our future careers and we never paid attention. Little did we knew that after two years many of us would be moving away and would be gone for a long time, the faces which we would be accustomed to see on a regular basis would suddenly disappear and conversations be limited to a few mails a month or maybe a chat or two.

I tell you people there are times like these which make you stand back and evaluate your life. While others are moving away and starting careers in universities or preparing to study abroad or working part-time jobs to earn the money for their education what are you doing and then you realize that whatever you are doing is pretty much the same as everybody else and whatever you are thinking about, everybody is thinking about too and even though everybody is doing the exact same thing you are doing………its not that much fun anymore. Suddenly there is an uncomfortable seriousness in life. Questions like, What am I going to do? Or What would I be happy doing? Etc… creep up on you and scare the living shit out of you.

And then suddenly… BAM……..self doubts start to manifest and then you begin to think you are not good enough to do what you want or you and not as bright and sharp as you thought.

I like to plan things and then I enjoy immensely when things play out exactly as I imagined they would. And so I have planned my life accordingly and in extreme detail and I hope it plays out perfectly but then life has an interestingly reliable way of “Fucking Up” things when you least expect them to.

Enough gloom for now its time for happy thoughts, I have passed my parking test, my big sis is on the verge of signing a job or internship contract for a period of 2 months where as my younger sister is busy making cards and paintings and let me tell you people they are fabulous, I mean they are breathtaking. She has a talent for such things and its quite a formidable one.

So its bye for now and hopefully this will be one of many interesting and not so interesting posts

hi all

back again i am. and i am jumping for joy(theoretically). My exams are starting on the 20th of may and here i thought that they would start on the 3rd or the 4th. Its incredible how relieved i am. I dont have to study like a dog on red bull.

hi guys

Life is busy for me at the moment. Exams are not far away and i am obligated to study. I keep telling myself that it is just one more exam and then u are done. but the truth is far from it. i am a student of grade 12 and after i graduate it is an inhumane struggle to find a decent university and hopefully get admitted there. lets see where i end up.

I live in a little village of UAE called Sharjah. the reason i calll it a village is because it pretty much is one. Although it is getting better but one thing that bugs me is the peoples attitudes. It is a strange phenomenon that people in dubai have a better attitude than the ones living in sharjah but maybe its all in my head.

I study in a school owned by the Government of Pakistan (not for long thank god). Not to say that it isnt a gud school, well its not bad but it is not exactly a place where one would study of their own free will. Freak teachers combined with a good lack of facilities makes it a living hell. Although i cant complain as i will be graduating in ohhh say 3 MONTHS.yAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO

give me a moment to savour this thought........................................................... ok im good. LETS MOVE ON. over the course of 3 months i will be detailing my struggles against the evil dynasties of PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and MATHEMATICS.
